These three cuties ventured with me to one of my favorite locations this fall. The weather was warm, the sun was shinning….a little too much! Of course I am always a fan when puppies join the session :)
Jenna wanted some place rustic with a real North Dakota feel for their engagement session, so we headed south of Mandan to a new found spot of mine and embraced a gorgeous fall evening. The days prior and after were terribly cold and ugly, but that evening was perfect! Brynlee was dressed so cute and was completely adorable as she looked for foxes and deer with grandma and grandpa. I can’t wait to photograph there wedding next summer at one of my favorite local venues Black Leg Ranch.
Back in early August Josh contacted me looking to set up a proposal session…..I was over the moon excited to be apart of this experience, my mind was racing with a million ideas. He informed me that his girlfriend Shelby had been a big fan of my work for years and keeps asking to get pictures taken together, which of course like most men he wasn’t a huge fan of the idea. So here is how it went down…..
Josh agreed to take pictures together as a couple and had Shelby reach out to me. Shelby and I set a session date in early September. Unfortunately that day did not work out. Shelby & Josh came down to Bismarck for their session and it rained! I was so sad but knew she wanted great pictures that didn’t include rain so we rescheduled. The worst part about this was not only had Josh shared his plan with his friend who was in town to celebrate after the session but also Shelby’s dad who then questioned if Josh had changed his mind! With our baby Rowan scheduled to arrive the following week we had to push the session out 3 weeks :( At least Shelby was completely clueless to the fact that she was getting engaged now since she had a little feeling it might be happening prior to rescheduling.
Josh and I met up that afternoon checking out the locations and getting a game plan together. We decided the best way was to act as if they were moving into a sitting pose and then he would pop the question…..a few hours later it was go time!
“ok let’s do a sitting pose again, Josh why don’t you sit here and then we can have Shelby sit here.”
My hands were shaking, my heart was racing and yes I was crying a little. This moment was finally happening for them! Two strangers that I had just met that day trusted me to capture one of the biggest moments of their lives and I was honored to do so.
Thank you Josh for including me in your proposal plans and Shelby for following my work for so many years. I know this moment meant a lot to the two of you and having me be apart of it speaks volumes. I also appreciate you bringing Baby Rowan a gift to our session, it was extremely kind and appreciated. I can’t wait to see where your love story goes next and hope to continue being apart of your milestones together!
We definitely did a little hiking for this session. With high water levels and lots of mosquitoes we ventured out to one of my favorite spots taking an unusual path but totally worth the work! These two were absolutely adorable and so fun to photograph.
Jenna & Nate made the trek from Grand Forks to Bismarck for their engagement session this August. Jenna was incredibly nice and Nate was head over heels for her. We spent the evening at one of my favorite locations embracing the haze from all of the smoke coming down from the Canadian fires. Next summer I will be traveling to Grand Forks to photograph their wedding, I am super excited to return to the area for 1 of 2 weddings I have out east in 2019.
A few years ago I reached out to some local vendors playing with the idea of giving away an entire wedding. I might have sounded crazy but it was something I had been wanting to do for awhile and started seeing similar occurrences happening in other parts of the US. It took some researching and a lot of trust from some amazing vendors and here we are, photographing the engagement session of our first ever Midwest Wedding Giveaway couple. This love story is different. This couple is different. Their entire wedding will be different. So why not do something completely different for their engagement session?! I was sitting at home watching Dory for the hundredth time with my daughter thinking of unique ways to tell their story when the idea of a celebration sparked. Lets go to a pretty field, since I love fields, and have them celebrate with wine and champagne. The only part I didn't really think threw was that both the decorate, Jaime, and I are currently pregnant so we didn't get to celebrate with them! Courtney & Justin are so incredibly nice and great to be around. Our session went fast with lot of laughs and I know their wedding day will be even more fun. Thank you guys for letting me be creative with your session and I know all of us vendors are over the moon excited for your upcoming wedding day!
Is it May yet? I feel like I have been waiting a long time for their wedding. Maybe it's because I have been following their relationship since it started anticipating the moment Ryan might actually propose and then acting like a giddy school girl when he finally did :) I've known both Carly & Ryan since High School....lucky them! Carly was always this super fit & funny girl on the soccer team beating me in chubby bunny contests while Ryan was one of those multisport boys I found myself in random classes with cracking jokes over things we will leave out of this post. I was pretty excited when they contacted me interested in booking their wedding date. Not only will I know basically everyone in attendance but their love story and personalities are absolutely perfect for each other and I am really excited for the two of them. Thanks for hiking with me for your engagement session, hope you didn't get lime disease after all those dang ticks!
