Nicole & Wyatt | Engagement Photography Badlands Killdeer, North Dakota

The Future Mr. & Mrs. Bice

Is it October yet? I am beyond excited to join this couple in Killdeer for what is sure to be a fun and beautiful wedding. For their engagement session I was invited to the Bice Ranch and boy was I blown away. The Elk running in the hills, sandy beaches, old homestead, it was everything this rustic loving photographer could have wanted.

Winter Maternity Session

Shalee invited me out to their adorable horse ranch north of Bismarck to document their maternity journey. It was an absolute pleasure capturing these images and hanging out with their horses again :)

We both wanted a small town simple wedding and to get married at the lake, since the outdoors is our passion. Our wedding was easy to plan because the small town of Linton ND accommodated our every need. I did all of the planning with the guidance of friends and family . I made all of our decorations and Image Printing had so many great ideas for the invitations and made it easy. We had a home cooked meal and every simple item came together perfectly and we had a perfect day we will never forget.”-Becca

Jenna & Dan | Engagement Badlands, North Dakota

Jenna & Dan

Jenna wanted some place rustic with a real North Dakota feel for their engagement session, so we headed south of Mandan to a new found spot of mine and embraced a gorgeous fall evening. The days prior and after were terribly cold and ugly, but that evening was perfect! Brynlee was dressed so cute and was completely adorable as she looked for foxes and deer with grandma and grandpa. I can’t wait to photograph there wedding next summer at one of my favorite local venues Black Leg Ranch.

Gabe & Josh | Engagement Bismarck, ND

Gabe & Josh

I am so excited to photograph their wedding next June at Black Leg Ranch. I know Gabe and I have similar tastes and I can't wait to see how she makes BLR unique to her own wedding. This evening was perfect for their engagement session at one of my favorite locations. Josh was completely smitten with Gabe and I really liked his go-with-the-flow attitude.

"I met Cody at the BSC Aquatic and Wellness Center in Bismarck, ND where we were both lifeguards. I came into apply for the position and Cody says that’s where he saw me for the first time. Cody and I worked shifts together and we began hanging out a lot. We were both in college at the time. After months had past he told me that it was love at first sight! He could tell me everything I was wearing the first day I saw him, and he says he instantly loved my laugh. I was instantly falling for him as well. Cody’s witty sense of humor and handsome smile knocked me off my feet!        We dated for 3 years, and in that time we grew so much! We experienced graduation, new jobs, long distance, bust most of all we grew stronger. Stronger in love, life, and faith.       On the day before Thanksgiving in 2016, Cody played it cool asking if I wanted to go get something to eat. Little did I know he would take me to a room full of flowers and candles. As he knelt down we both cried. In that moment my best friend, love of my life, and man of my dreams asked me to be his wife." -Megan

We started with the big things first! We first booked our venue, caterer, photographer, and church. This was a blast! Cody and I were lucky to experience this process with some great businesses ran by great people.      The flowers, hair, and attire were of coarse the fun stuff. The mass mailers for everything took a lot of time and Cody and I licked a lot of envelopes. If you can get through the process of mass mailing as a couple, you can get through a lot! J            Our wedding was in September and we decided on beautiful fall colors, and rustic décor. We made all our own mason jars. The mother of the bride was quite crafty and we took lots of miscellaneous decorations and put them together for an eclectic feel. Our cousins even made us our own photo booth backdrop made out of pallets.

"Melanie, Thank you for capturing the most beautiful moments of such a special day for Cody and me. You truly captured the love between us and I will be forever grateful. You and your husband were flexible with the hustle of the day. Thank you for that! The style of your pictures really emphasized our vision for our big day. Thank you!" -Megan

Our wedding was in September and we decided on beautiful fall colors, and rustic décor. We made all our own mason jars. The mother of the bride was quite crafty and we took lots of miscellaneous decorations and put them together for an eclectic feel. Our cousins even made us our own photo booth backdrop made out of pallets.

We first met on a sandbar on the Missouri River. We were introduced by mutual friends. I was currently in a relationship at the time that went south about a month later and I happened to run into Zack again. I was infatuated with him ever since I met him on the River that day. We finally went on our first date and not long after that we were official and moved in together 6 months later and the rest was history. It happened really fast but it’s almost like we were meant for each other.         Zack proposed to me at our good friend’s wedding (it was actually the bride and groom’s idea). They called him up with this great idea that when she would go to throw the bouquet she would just turn around and give it to me (of course at first I thought this was a joke like “haha you’re not engaged yet so you better hurry up”) and Zack would be down on one knee behind me with a ring. Of course, I never saw this coming because who proposes at someone else’s wedding but the fact that our friends wanted to surprise ME on their big day made everything that much better.

Wedding planning came pretty easy as I had an idea of what I wanted for quite some time. I wanted things to be boho/rustic but simple. I didn’t want tons for floral but just greenery/ leaves/ branches that sort of thing. Our tables had long vines across them with wood rounds in the middle that had old milk bottles/jars with greenery in them, candles and deer antlers. The table clothes were a champagne color with lace runners. Our backdrop was a sheer with lights and vines hanging down. I really couldn’t have had a better decorator. The only downfall was not being able to get married outdoors. We had about a 50% chance of rain that day and didn’t want to chance being poured on so we said our I Do’s on the barn itself.

I got a lot of ideas on Pinterest and bought a lot of my décor/gifts/jewelry etc… from Esty.

Tammy was so easy to work with and pretty much hit the nail on the head on what I wanted my venue to look like. She did all the set up and tear down which was very helpful.

Broadway was also great to work with. Kris made sure I stayed within my budget and everyone was in and out quickly that morning. The girls were very happy with their results.

"Melanie was great from the start. I love the fact that she was there the day we got engaged and was able to capture that moment for us. From the engagement pictures to the wedding pictures she was able to create my visions in my head. I can’t wait to call her when the time comes for a pregnancy shoot. Thank you, Melanie, for capturing these special moments in our lives and I’m glad I can call you a friend." -Elisha

Tori & Tyler Engagement | Bismarck, ND | Couples

Tori & Tyler traveled from Dickinson for their engagement session. The evening was hot, just like their love! We had the perfect night for engagement pictures; dreamy lighting, stylish outfits, low wind....it was great, minus the mosquitoes! I am so excited to be photographing their wedding next summer as they were a complete blast. I always say, true love is the easiest story to capture!

Haley & Matt | Bismarck, ND | Maternity Photography

36 weeks of gorgeousness! I love everything about Haley's maternity session. The lighting. The outfits. Her adorable bump. The sweet puppy she brought with!

Matt and Haley joined me on quite the adventure hiking to this spot; beating out bugs, ticks and a race for sunset! I'm sure Matt was the most entertained, watching two pregnant women climb hills and trek threw tall grass while keeping a stern eye out for snakes!
