"Conner and I met at a mutual friend’s bonfire and it was truly love at first sight. After that night we were inseparable and after a year of dating he proposed. The proposal took place while on a trip to Las Vegas in front of the dancing waters at the Bellagio Hotel! Everything that night was perfect!" -Gena

"Melanie, it has been such a privilege and a pleasure working with you! You know what poses and what background scenery will make the perfect shot and you think of things that I never could have known that I wanted until I see the end result. I am absolutely in love with every picture that you have taken for us from our engagement session, to my boudoir session and lastly to our wedding day. You are amazing and I can’t wait to work with you again in the future! You are now officially our family photographer!" -Gena

"It has become a tradition for the women in my family to be married at the Cathedral of The Holy Spirit and I knew I wanted to keep the tradition by having our wedding ceremony take place there. For our reception area, I wanted some place unique and Sixteen03 was the perfect place! Sixteen03 did everything from our decorations there and at the church to catering our social hour and dinner. Sarah and Michelle were amazing to work with and were able to satisfy my every request. I loved everything they did that night to help make our special day even more wonderful."-Gena

"We met when we were 15-16 years old. First time ever meeting each other we were in ad time at BHS junior year but never talked to one another. We didn’t start talking until the end of the school year when summer started. My friend and I got invited from a mutual friend of ours to come over and hangout over at Ricky's for the afternoon. That’s when Ricky and I started actually talking and got to know each other. That was at the end of May, he didn’t technically ask me out until July 7thand been together ever since."- Rachel

" We went to a football game Dallas Cowboys vs Minnesota Vikings on December 1st, 2016 We are huge cowboy fans. My mom and stepdad, who are Vikings fans, came with also. First thing I thought was weird when we got an Uber Ricky sat in the front while my parents and I sat in the back. Thinking to myself well ok Ricky rude much why not let Ron sit in the front seat but obviously now I know he was too nervous to sit by me.     We are at the stadium now walking around checking it out since it was the new stadium they built, got some beer, found our seats and taking some pictures. Ricky left I thought to get more beer for us but he was gone for a while. So, I was wondering where he was at well more importantly where my beer was at haha jk. He finally came back then he said hey let's go look at the field again. I said we already did why go look at it again. He said come on let's just go. I got up noticed my parents got up too wondering why they are coming too. We got down there looking at the field again Ricky says hey look whos here I turn around see his mom and terry standing there turn back over to Ricky as he was getting down on one knee. I started backing up saying no, no, no like 50 times started crying of course I did say yes and obviously saying no so many times was me in shock because I didn’t think it would ever happen. At the time, we were together for almost 11.5 years so pretty much had it in my mind he was never going to ask, but he did!! Oh, and the Cowboys won too, just topping off fantastic night already with our team winning."-Rachel

"I mean really, it's planning a wedding. A lot to do, a lot to think about, a lot of money, a lot of everyone's time. I will say though, if I didn’t have my mom helping me it would've been a million more times stressful. She helped so much, there's no way I could ever thank her enough!"-Rachel

"Melanie you are awesome!! I know our height difference was a little challenging but you figured out and it resulted in beautiful photos. The location we did wedding pictures at was amazing, we are so glad you talked us into going down there. You seriously did a spectacular job, I love all photos. You and your husband were great that day. I honestly don’t know what to say besides how great you are and we are so happy you were our photographer. Thank you for everything!"-Rachel

Kelsea + Nathan | Engagement Photography Western North Dakota

Their love is like a romance novel I can't stop reading.

A few weeks back I traveled to Western North Dakota to meet and photograph Kelsea and Nathan. My husband knew Nathan from his Professional Bull Riding days and their parents are old date night friends but I had never met him and felt like a semi fan-girl from watching him on TV. Have you ever met someone for the first time and felt like you've been best friends for years? That's the feeling I got from hanging out with Kelsea all evening. She was so incredibly kind and obviously good looking! When we arrived we were greeted by the normal ranch dogs and I found myself in complete awe of what they call their "backyard". Our night consisted of many laughs, the boys chatting ranch life, and me being in photographer Heaven. We battled the wind, timed out the lighting, and managed not to roll the ranger as we trekked up and down the hills. Thank you Kelsea and Nathan for inviting us to your home, capturing your love, and gaining new friends. I can't wait to celebrate your wedding day and watch your love story grow for many years to come!

"Reed and I met in the Spring of 2013 at college bowling night at Midway Lanes in Mandan, ND. Since that time we have spent a lot of time traveling, sharing our hobbies with one another, and simply enjoying growing as young adults together. After 4 years of dating Reed proposed to me at Firehole Canyon in Yellowstone National Park. He had the ring with him in the water and told me he had “something to show me” which for me sounded like he was holding something alive and disgusting so I nearly smacked his hand away when he open his hand. Instead he was holding a gorgeous ring and asked me to be his forever." -Ashley

I had always thought I would have an extremely elaborate wedding when I was younger and my Pinterest board was packed full of grand décor and over the top details. When it came time to plan for the wedding I was so focused on the important details for Reed and I such as recognizing our family members and emphasizing what marriage meant to us that our wedding in all aspects turned out to be perfectly “us.” I am unsure if weddings seem to run so seamlessly for most people but it will always be the most phenomenal and flawless day of our lives. In addition, I will also mention that planning wasn’t nearly as bad as people talked about until about 3 weeks before the wedding where RSVPs and small details began to drive me absolutely nuts! Reed and I would consider ourselves not very photogenic and Melanie not only made us feel so comfortable and take our photos in an insanely small window of time, she gave us so many gorgeous memories of our wedding day.  Since receiving our photos (which were done so incredibly fast) I cannot even count the number of compliments we have received on her quality of work.  She took one of the most stressful aspects (for me anyways) of the wedding day and made it so enjoyable, I would recommend Melanie to absolutely anyone under any circumstance." -Ashley

In addition, I will also mention that planning wasn’t nearly as bad as people talked about until about 3 weeks before the wedding where RSVPs and small details began to drive me absolutely nuts!

"Right from the start of our engagement I knew the one thing I was not willing to skimp on or sacrifice was photography.  After researching all of the photographers within our immediate area I fell in love with Melanie’s work as a photographer and was beyond ecstatic when I found out she had our wedding date available.

"I met Cody at the BSC Aquatic and Wellness Center in Bismarck, ND where we were both lifeguards. I came into apply for the position and Cody says that’s where he saw me for the first time. Cody and I worked shifts together and we began hanging out a lot. We were both in college at the time. After months had past he told me that it was love at first sight! He could tell me everything I was wearing the first day I saw him, and he says he instantly loved my laugh. I was instantly falling for him as well. Cody’s witty sense of humor and handsome smile knocked me off my feet!        We dated for 3 years, and in that time we grew so much! We experienced graduation, new jobs, long distance, bust most of all we grew stronger. Stronger in love, life, and faith.       On the day before Thanksgiving in 2016, Cody played it cool asking if I wanted to go get something to eat. Little did I know he would take me to a room full of flowers and candles. As he knelt down we both cried. In that moment my best friend, love of my life, and man of my dreams asked me to be his wife." -Megan

We started with the big things first! We first booked our venue, caterer, photographer, and church. This was a blast! Cody and I were lucky to experience this process with some great businesses ran by great people.      The flowers, hair, and attire were of coarse the fun stuff. The mass mailers for everything took a lot of time and Cody and I licked a lot of envelopes. If you can get through the process of mass mailing as a couple, you can get through a lot! J            Our wedding was in September and we decided on beautiful fall colors, and rustic décor. We made all our own mason jars. The mother of the bride was quite crafty and we took lots of miscellaneous decorations and put them together for an eclectic feel. Our cousins even made us our own photo booth backdrop made out of pallets.
